Welcome to my gallery

” Capturing the story of a simple moment, turns the ordinary into the extraordinary “

I am SO taken by structures, shapes, buildings. I see them in my own way, and always try and capture them when I can. When I was growing up in Milwaukee,Wisconsin, I loved our Art Museum. Absolute heaven to me. In 2001 Santiago Calatrava added an addition that is sheer genius to me; it literally has wings! Sometimes they are extended, and sometimes there is too much wind off Lake Michigan, they stay tucked in. Both ways the Museum is stunning with this addition. The 3 months I was in Milwaukee, the days I went to the Calatrava, the wings were in. My final visit, the wings were out…interestingly enough I was dead-centre beneath the wings. I loved it. It was an angle I had not expected, and the museum’s addition looked like a futuristic rocket ship. For me, the perfect photo was captured. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

My Husband’s set designer for his show was a genius. One of his many incredible sets was building an ‘artist colony’ with art installations. Well, Tom’s job was artistic, and this time with pieces of his own art on set. It was brilliant and so happy to have captured it. (Powatan State Park, Virginia)

I finally got to the V & A in Dundee. I wanted to see Kengo Kuma’s architecture, and take photos. His design was inspired by the eastern coastline of Scotland. These cladded horizontal concrete panels, with the walkway in the centre, felt like I was looking through a kaleidoscope. I asked a few people to stop, so I could capture the walkway empty, where You could literally see to the other side of the Tay.

I do feel like Angels are watching over me and I’m gifted these special moments. The city pretty much shut down, because they are not use to snow. I walked to this spot by the James River regularly, but today it was different. It was 10AM and there wasn’t a soul out. The River was roaring, the snow was lightly falling, and the train was running at a snails pace above, stacked with coal speckled by the snow. And, there was this single light left on. It was an incredible moment – it took my breath away. (Richmond, Virginia)

I came down early on a sunny day to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Lake Front. I had never been close up to these three red granite columns that stand almost 30 feet high. For some reason, I went to the centre of the three columns and laid on the ground on my back. The red granite was beautiful and comes from northern Wisconsin. The Vietnam War was devastating and took the lives of so many, all ages and races. As I laid there and looked up, the columns changed. From where the sun was, one column appeared white, one red, and one onyx. It said so much to me. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

The sky and water of Lake Michigan from the shores of Wisconsin in winter are an enigma. It is bitter cold, but yet I am so drawn to the shore. The colours in winter are as if you have been transported to the Cayman Islands; they are so warm and vibrant. Worth every moment being outside. (Belgium, Wisconsin)

This day! I was walking along a narrow metal walkway parallel to the James River. It was constant, beautiful… (Richmond, Virginia)

It was a true November sky and very cold. This pond that sits near the Old Course Hotel – everything around it just shimmered. (St. Andrews, Scotland)

I was walking in the forests on the Falkland Estate in Scotland. I got quite lost, but kept on walking up a path. There was a parting of the trees, and I decided to walk through. It was thick with very high trees, but there was a splinter of light in the middle coming down. The silence was deafening, stopped me in my tracks. I felt like I was surrounded by others from centuries ago. It was a crazy yet very calming feeling. (Falkland, Scotland)

Scottish Souls

When we first moved to this picturesque town, I was finding my way home one evening. The sun was starting to set behind me and everything looked like cotton-candy colours with the oranges and lime greens. I was in a meadow and came upon a board that was used to cross a very small burn. I felt like a kid and literally held my breath as I slowly walked across the board. Yes ~ I made it! The hike up the Crags takes you high above the town of Callander with incredible views. I had heard about a famous old tree that was called ‘The Witch’s Tree’ up at the Crags. I came upon this, and it had to be! (Crags, Callander, Scotland)

As I walked towards Kilmahog, the sky was so blue against Ben Ledi’s snowy top, I was meant to stop and capture it. (Kilmahog, Scotland)

My Son would run up Dundee Law and would dare me regularly. Well I did it, with camera in tow on a cold December morning. It was extremely hard, being the highest point in the city, and I felt like I had permanent lung-freeze! Once at the top, again I felt gifted this crazy layering of clouds that looked like mountain ranges. It was spectacular. I was in the heavens, thanks to my Son. (Dundee, Scotland)

I shoot objects, the unusual, and nature. This day…Zombies graced my photo. I was on my Husband’s show set, very late one evening. Cameras stopped rolling, but the fire, dust, mist, and Zombies were still moving – so I captured it. (Petersburg, Virginia)

I grew up going to Doctor’s Park. It was like Pirate heaven finding treasures of multi-coloured rocks and smoothed glass. Beyond the beach, it felt like an island of dinosaur bones, branches, and pirate treasure. Going back and capturing it on film as an adult, it felt exactly the same. The lone seagull gave it even more credibility as a pirate sanctuary. (Fox Point, Wisconsin)

Who knew at the centre of Dundee sits the volcanic remains from about 400 million years ago. Dundee Law that day made me feel like a human sun dial. Incredible day, and was so happy to capture it. (Dundee, Scotland)

I was on the roof of a building at the Port of Lisbon. A big storm was coming in. The Blues were extraordinary. (Lisbon, Portugal)

I am not a Photographer that waits and sets up. I am on the move…constantly. However, I truly feel I am gifted incredible moments. This photo was one of them. It was almost 10PM and I was coming down from the Crags, a high point in Callander, Scotland. I literally turned a corner in the forest - everything shimmered in a golden light. Just…breathtaking. Standing Tall Among Trees

I wanted to capture the wings of the Calatrava Museum dead-centre. This day I did. The day was unusual. It was very still but the blue sky made everything feel very weighed down. It looked as though silver paint was dumped into the atmosphere making it feel heavy and sad. The museum’s rods and wings looked extraordinary though against this unusual landscape. I was walking in the Fitzrovia area of London with camera in hand, and happened to look up. This very mod yet chic building’s front protruded out, before You even made it to the front door. It was fabulous. I felt like London was calling! (Fitzrovia, England)

I was walking in the Coal Drops Yard at the heart of King’s Cross in London. I looked up on this sunny day, and this building enveloped me, yet gave way right above me, reflecting the sky beautifully. (London, England)

A family friend grew up in a small Scottish fishing village. He did not eat fish, but we reaped the benefits of catches more than once. He brought over two large bags of langoustines one day. I cleaned them all, and they covered my whole kitchen island. These two, had very distinctive roe. I grabbed my camera to capture the moment. (Mayfield, Scotland)

This sky was extraordinary, but different. It was deeply moving to me but reminded me of a word I learned growing up Catholic…the rapture. It basically meant end of days. This however, was not that to me. It was rapture as in - joy. The confluence of dark and light. (Scottish Central Highlands)
